special guest my fave lady tomoe edit: i forgot to colour kotetsu’s feet in the last page hahah go me
could you explain what happened in kagerou project? even after watching the videos and reading the manga and wiki pages I'm still very confused. I don't really see how everything connects or what people's rolls were? Also how did kuroha happen and is summertime record an alternate ending to outer science? If this is too much to explain (which I could certainly understand) that is completely okay! don't strain yourself or anything over this message!
Okay, I’m not very good at explaining KagePro (and I might get a few things wrong) but I will try my best!
Okay, so hundreds of years prior to the current storyline, there is this medusa named Azami. Now, Azami lived in the forest, isolated from human society due to the fact that she was a medusa and thus considered a monster. And then there’s this man named Tsukihiko. Tsukihiko was born with very light hair and light eyes, and was thus considered a monster by his fellow villagers. One day, he encounters Azami, who tells him to stay away from her because she’s “a monster.” Understanding the feeling, he tells her, “Being alone is a sad thing. I’m a monster as well, so let’s spend our life together.” They fall in love, get married, and have a daughter, Shion. They lived peacefully in the forest together until one day, their home was attacked by villagers who believed that Azami was holding Tsukihiko captive. This event made Azami create and enter the Heat Haze.
The Heat Haze, as seen in songs such as Kagerou Days and Ayano’s Theory of Happiness, is a neverending world where time essentially repeats itself. Azami used her snakes to create the Heat Haze because she wanted to make a world for her and her family so that they could live in peace. But, in the end, Azami entered the Heat Haze and left Tsukihiko and Shion behind in the real world.
Now, on August 15th, hundreds of years after Azami left, Shion is living in the woods with her own daughter, Mary. One day, while Mary was playing outside, a group of village boys came and attacked her. Shion rushed to her side and used her medusa powers to turn one of the boys into stone (or froze him, I forget). However, Shion overexerted herself and dies. Now, I’m a bit shaky on this part, but I think the death of Shion (and possibly Mary as well) causes the Heat Haze to reopen and take them in. However, the Heat Haze doesn’t just take in Mary and Shion. It ends up taking in everyone who died in pairs (something like that). It goes as follows:
Kido and her older sister (who perished in a house fire caused by their father)
Kano and his mother (both stabbed to death in their apartment by burglars)
Seto and his friend or dog (both drowned)
Momo and her dad (both drowned in a marine accident)
So, all these people enter the Heat Haze in pairs. However, only one from each pair was able to exit the Heat Haze and get another chance to live. And everyone who was able to leave received an eye power that corresponded to one of Azami’s snakes:
Kano (power to deceive)
Kido (power to conceal)
Seto (power to steal information)
Momo (power to attract attention to herself)
Mary (power to temporarily freeze a person’s movement)
From that point, everything sort of branches out. Mary continues to live in the woods by herself. Seto, Kido, and Kano get put into an orphanage where they are later adopted by Kenjirou and Ayaka Tateyama, the parents of Ayano Tateyama. Momo goes on to become a teen pop idol.
But let’s start with the orphan trio. So, Kido, Kano, and Seto get adopted into the Tateyama family (probably because Kenjirou and Ayaka were fascinated by their eye abilities). At this point, they haven’t been able to control their eye powers yet, so their eyes are constantly red and this causes them to alienate themselves from other people. To cheer them up, big sister Ayano tells them that the color red is not the color of a monster, but of a hero. To prove it, she shows them a picture of Kamen rider in a red muffler and even begins to wear one herself. She also gives the trio hoodies and tells them that they’re part of a secret gang of heroes. Thus, creating the Mekakushi Dan.
From that point, everything was going well. The orphan trio were living happily with the Tateyamas and Ayano was enjoying school life with her friends: Shintaro, Haruka, and Takane. At some point, Seto stumbles across Mary and befriends her, giving her his hoodie.
But everything changed when the landslide attacked. While out researching, Kenjirou and Ayaka were caught in a landslide. Both of them died and entered the Heat Haze. However, only Kenjirou emerged and gained the eye power of “making eyes clear”. This is when everything started to go downhill. The orphan trio and Ayano mourned Ayaka’s death. Kenjirou took it especially hard and began intense research on the Heat Haze and eye powers. He eventually decides to conduct experiments and wants to use his two students, Haruka Kokonose and Takane Enemoto, as test subjects. Ayano finds out about this and creates a “plan” to protect everyone.
Ayano plans to enter the Heat Haze and gain an eye power in hopes that maybe she could save everyone’s happiness. So, Ayano commits suicide by jumping from the building of her school. After her death, the orphan trio presumably leave the Tateyama household and Shintaro, believing Ayano’s suicide was partly his fault, falls into depression and resigns into a hikikomori lifestyle. Kenjirou kills both Haruka and Takane for his experiments, turning Haruka into Konoha and Takane into Ene. Ene also manages to find her way to Shintaro’s computer. This is probably because Ene remembered Shintaro from when she was alive and he was her only remaining friend.
After leaving the Tateyama house, the Mekakushi Dan relocate to this apartment. I’m guessing it’s around this time that they begin recruiting new members. Seto returns to the forest and brings back Mary (Imagination Forest) and Kido brings in Momo (watch Kisaragi Attention or read the manga chapter). Ene also joins the Mekakushi at some point. Shintaro joins after going to the mall to buy a new computer and getting stuck in a terrorist situation (with trusty fellow hostage Kano).
Okay, I’m really really shaky on what happens with Hibiya, Hiyori, and Konoha. I know that Hibiya goes with Hiyori to visit the city and, somewhere in there, they bump into Kano who tells them that they should play outside. They follow his advice and end up getting hit by a truck. Hibiya and Hiyori end up in the Heat Haze where they die over and over again (Konoha’s there too) until Hibiya emerges out of the haze with an eye power (the ability to see things from a great distance) and is taken to the hospital. Hibiya then busts out of the hospital and runs off to find Hiyori. The Mekakushi Dan get involved in this somehow and they chase him down (Momo catches him, I think). Kido, being the mother bear that she is, takes Hibiya and Konoha into the Mekakushi Dan.
Okay, here are some things that happen but I don’t remember when:
Kido explains to Shintaro that the Mekakushi Dan plan to enter the Heat Haze and retrieve their loved ones who are still trapped there
The Meka Meka Dan have fun times at the amusement park
Shintaro has a nightmare where Kano disguises himself as Ayano and mentally torments him
So now we have Lost Time Memory. From this point, there are two routes. Route 1 and Route XXX. In Route 1, Shintaro goes to meet up with the Mekakushi Dan. Konoha becomes Kuroha for some reason and tries to shoot himself, but Shintaro takes the bullet for him and dies. In Route XXX, Shintaro is still in deep depression over Ayano’s death. He never leaves his room and chooses to spend his days lying in bed and remembering the past. Ene tries to get him to move on, but this only irritates him and he deletes her. He then commits suicide by stabbing himself with scissors ( or cutting his neck? not sure.) Both Shintaro’s enter the Heat Daze and meet Ayano, but Route 1 Shintaro, showing the willingness and strength to move on, recieves an eye power from Ayano and leaves the Daze.
And some stuff that I don’t know goes down.
And then we have Outer Science. As far as I can scratch together, Shintaro and Konoha were chilling (near Mary’s house, I think), a bee comes along and causes Shintaro to run off a cliff, Konoha tries to save him and gets stabbed by a huge branch, then Kuroha happens. Kuroha goes berserk and kills everyone but Mary, who resets the timeline in order to save everyone.
Some more stuff happens.
Then we have Summertime Record, the end of the series. The Mekakushi Dan achieved their happy ending somehow and go their separate ways, moving on into the future and leaving behind the pain they suffered. It’s debatable whether or not they remember their time together as the Meka Dan. But they’re happy, so that’s nice!
And that’s my very best effort at explaining KagePro’s storyline. I know I might have messed up some things, so please correct me if I’m wrong! ;w;
